Research programme in Advanced materials:
The programme of Advanced materials is focussed on advanced (functional and structural gradient, nanostructural and smart) ceramic materials, polymers, metals and composites. Basic research is focussed on advanced methods of synthesis (or preparing) of advanced materials and multifunctional composites with polymeric, ceramic, silicate or metallic matrixes, characterization of their structures on various dimensional scales and quantifying structure-property-function relationships on the various structural levels. Combined research in the field of advanced ceramic materials, polymeric composites and metallic composites will be focussed on applications in medicine, electrical engineering, power engineering, engineering, chemistry and building engineering.

Planned realisation and outcomes in Advanced materials:
The research results will head towards new materials for medical applications (surgery and dental implants, bioactive coatings), engineering applications (components, tools, high-temperature machinery and devices), electrochemical applications (oxygen and hydrogen membranes and membrane reactors, SOFC), electronic applications  (dielectrics, ferroelectrics, piezoelectrics, semiconductive ceramics and polymers), catalytic applications (homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts), energy applications (advanced refractory steels, intermetallic materials, superalloys) and building applications (self-cleaning paints, antibacterial surfaces).

The Institute for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technology and Innovation

Research center of the Technical University of Liberec financed from Operational Programme Research and development for innovation.

Research programme:
Basic research  is focused on a complete physical description of the processes that take place in the electrospinning of polymer solutions and melts. The development (technological) part specializes in new process variants and their modifications. The basic research activities will be: electrospinning, preparation of various types of nanosurface treatments and preparation of composites based on nanomaterials.

Applied research of nanomaterials is focused on exploring the properties of nanomaterials and their utilization for specific applications, such as the development of specific products, especially filters, surface treatments in medicine and engineering, and biotechnology materials for water treatment and other sanitation procedures.

Planned realisation and outcomes:
Application of nanomaterials is being developed in the following directions: nanofibres for filtration of gases and liquids, sound-absorbing materials, covers for wounds and other medical materials. In addition, materials for remedial processes, tissue engineering and composites or nanosurfaces and nanofibre materials for implants and tissue engineering. Another direction is the development of nanoparticles for treatment of wastewater or functional nanosurfaces for photocatalytic purification and sterilization.

Planned realisation and outcomes in material research:
Research on organic, printed and flexible electronics, smart textiles, smart garments and environmental sensors for IoT applications. The core objectives cover printing and additive deposition of electronic structures using novel functional nanomaterials (metallic nanoparticles, organic conductive compounds, carbon nanotubes, graphene) and integration of electronic functionalities on flexible foils and in textiles. Particular attention is devoted to R&D on sensors for detection of humidity, temperature and various chemical gases and vapours based on electrochemical and chemoresistive principle.
